The book examines Carter the Great’s Spirit Cabinet, Rooklyn’s Birth of the Pearl, and John Daniel’s original Thin Model Sawing. Caveney explains how these historic illusions were reconstructed and returned to the stage, while also providing their complete routines and performance scripts.

Designed as a companion to Sawing: The Astonishing History of Magic’s Most Iconic Illusion, this volume focuses on the construction and evolution of the sawing illusions developed by John Daniel, Virgil, and Walter Blaney. Fifty previously unpublished photographs offer rare views inside these celebrated stage apparatuses.

An extensive chapter is devoted to Zati Sungur, who devised the Thin Sawing illusion during the 1930s. His remarkable career is documented through numerous photographs that had not previously appeared in print.
